The Road Freight Association has slammed the blockade on the N3 and called for the truck drivers obstructing the highway to be arrested.

It says the truckers are holding the industry hostage.

Truck drivers have been blockading all lanes of the busy route in the vicinity of Van Reenen's Pass.

The association says the police must intervene.

All Truck Drivers' Forum and Allied South Africa secretary's Sfiso Nyathi says the truck drivers are aggrieved by logistics companies which they say prioritise foreign nationals over South Africans for jobs.

He says this has been an ongoing problem and it seems their pleas are falling on deaf ears.

"Government is 100% talking and is good on talking but it's not good on decisive action against truck owners and enforcement.

"When we talking about driving trucks, we are not talking about a scarce or shortage of skills we have thousands of truck drivers are sitting at home by deliberate are not employed by South African truck owners.

"I can tell you some employers who qualify to drive a truck is your foreigner. They don't want a license. They don't want anything. But when it comes to South African, they want five years' experience."
