Warring taxi associations have signed a peace deal in Ladysmith to prevent and eliminate the violence in the industry.

Police spokesperson Lirandzu Themba says the aim of the treaty is to break the cycle of violence and intimidation between rival taxi associations by providing a peaceful and lasting solution.
"It is on this score that the SAPS led by the Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, met with owners of the main taxi associations responsible for taxi operations in KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng.
"The meeting resolved that a peace agreement be drafted, which will, amongst other things, include, a ceasefire be drafted and signed between the involved taxi associations. "
