Reprioritise funding for higher education: forum

The fees crisis in the higher education sector will only be solved through peaceful engagement.
This is according to Convener of the National Education Crisis Forum, former Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke.
The forum briefed media in Houghton this afternoon.
The forum has had a series of meetings with government, vice-chancellors and student leaders.

It believes the 8 percent cap on fee increases poses a serious threat to the 2017 academic year and is one of the issues that needs immediate attention.
"You don't order peace, you create conditions that will facilitate peaceful engagements. We are really saying to the State, reprioritise funding. Let's think afresh. Let's reposition education. It's quite an important call we are making. We are saying to a state to rethink how they are going to use your money" says Moseneke.
