Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini’s Disaster Management Unit and humanitarian group Gift of the Givers are rolling out emergency relief to residents of Durban’s Kennedy Road informal settlement.

A fire there gutted homes on Thursday, displacing over 200 people.
Fire crews were called to the informal settlement on Thursday afternoon, but by then, more than 100 homes had already been destroyed.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.

eThekwini says the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
It says some of the displaced families are currently being accommodated by friends, relatives or neighbours.
Teams from the City and Gift of the Givers are distributing food, blankets and other essentials.
