Reed Dance: All buses transporting maidens to be inspected
The father of two maidens who died while returning from the Reed Dance at the Enyokeni Palace in Nongoma in 2013 says he's happy all buses will be inspected this year.
Jabulani Mnguni of uMzumbe on the south coast says while nothing can bring his daughters back, he wouldn't wish his loss on anyone else.
22-year-old Noxolo and 19-year-old Nondumiso, as well as seven other maidens and two of their chaperones, were killed when the bus they'd been travelling in crashed on the R66 near Melmoth.
He says the inspection will put parents at ease.
"The investigation should look at what state the bus was in before they left Mzumbe. It wasn't roadworthy. It was stopped by police here. Our mayor and speaker spoke to the driver. On the way back - the bus was stopped by police again and the driver was arrested but police let another driver carry on with the trip," he said.
The inquest docket opened in 2013 following the crash was finalised this past week, according to the NPA.
