Ramaphosa: Violence during elections won’t be tolerated

President Cyril Ramaphosa says threats of violence or any acts undermining the democratic system will not be tolerated.

He spoke after an alleged assault on some ANC members at a government event in Nongoma's KwaCeza area on Saturday. 


A statement by the governing party alleges IFP members carried it out.

Ramaphosa has appealed to political parties to be tolerant and respectful as the country counts down to the May general elections.


"We will not tolerate anybody who will want to perpetrate violence for instances over the outcome of the elections does not favour them. We will take action. The security forces in our country are going to be acting against anyone who will be taking action against our democratic system." 


IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa also appealed for calm.
