Ramaphosa must implement ‘thorough probe’ into Mkhwanazi claims
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police says the explosive allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal's top cop, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, paint a picture of a weak and broken system.

Ian Cameron made the remarks at Parliament's Peace and Security Cluster Committee briefing on Monday, a day after Mkhwanazi held a press briefing in Durban.
He claims the SAPS team tasked with investigating political killings was dissolved after uncovering a powerful criminal syndicate.
Mkhwanazi says their investigation has exposed a drug cartel that has control over politicians, police officers, prosecutors, members of the judiciary, and business people.

" As the head of state, the president has a responsibility to implement an intensive investigation into the corruption allegations at SAPS. The committee welcomes the assurance of the President to give the matter due regard upon his return from Brazil, but is urged that this matter be priority number one.
"The revelations have given credence to the call by the committee for an extensive skills and lifestyle audit. I actually want to go as far as saying we need to go through an entire integrity commission. To get to the bottom of the rot in the South African Police Service."
