Ramaphosa hits out at critics over Mkhwanazi inquiry
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
President Cyril Ramaphosa says he finds it odd that some are opposing his decision to appoint a commission of inquiry into explosive claims made by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner has claimed the SAPS has been infiltrated by criminal elements.
He's accused some officials, including Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, of interfering in investigations into the activities of organised crime gangs.
Mchunu was placed on a leave of absence last weekend.
Speaking during the tabling of the Presidency budget vote in Parliament, Ramaphosa hit back at criticism that past commissions of inquiry have yielded no meaningful outcomes.
He says such claims are baseless.

"Some have said that I should take immediate punitive steps against the Minister on the basis of untested allegations. Not only would this be unfair, but it would create a dangerous precedent. The commission should be allowed to do its work."
Mkhwanazi also alleged that some prosecutors and even judges were under the control of criminal syndicates.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ramaphosa told Parliament that the integrity and credibility of the criminal justice system is vital to the fight against crime and corruption.
“Over the last few years, we have made significant progress in rebuilding and strengthening law enforcement agencies, security services and prosecutorial bodies.
These changes have been real and visible in the South African Police Service, the Hawks, National Prosecuting Authority, Asset Forfeiture Unit, Special Investigating Unit, State Security Agency and others. We are determined to maintain this momentum.”
