He was delivering the keynote address on the first day of the party's Northern Cape provincial elective congress in Colesberg.

"This church called the African National Congress is in danger. Where once there was unity, we now find division in this church. Where once there was selflessness, we now find self-interest," says Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa, however, says there should never be any gloom or discouragement.

"We are far from ruin. We are far from total disintegration. We are far from a total disaster. We need to pause, however, to think and take a long and hard look at ourselves. We need to ask how we lost our way and we need to find a way of retracing our steps back to where we belong," says Ramaphosa.

He told party members that renewal must start in the Northern Cape.

"If we act now with determination and with purpose we can rebuild, renew and unite our movement...and it must start here in the Northern Cape."
