R100m project to repair CCTV cameras has begun – eThekwini

The eThekwini Municipality says the process has begun to fix broken CCTV cameras around the city.
The project, which was announced in September, is expected to cost the city some R100 million.
The city says contractors are currently on the ground repairing the infrastructure.

The street cameras operate on power and fibre and became defective after some of the fibre cables were washed away during last year’s floods.
Tourist safety came under the spotlight after an incident which saw two elderly visitors from the United States robbed of their personal belongings in Durban's city centre.
The city has also increased the number of visible law enforcement officers deployed to all crime hotspots.
