Public sector unions, govt enter wage negotiations

More housing benefits and a risk allowance - are among the demands public sector unions have presented to the government, as pre-wage negotiations get under way.

Trade union federation, Cosatu says they're also asking for a pay hike of consumer inflation plus 4%.
Workers unions submitted their demands to the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council yesterday.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni's decision to freeze salary increases - for the next three years - is being challenged in court.
Cosatu negotiator Mugwena Malulek said: "We are also demanding R2 500 for housing, the demand is basically to say look we need to bring in parity that has been caused by different departments establishing their own entry levels."
