Public sector unions end strike as settlement agreement reached
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Trade union Nehawu has ended its public servants strike after
it reached a settlement with the government over pay.

It is not yet known what the salary increase for public servants would be, but it's believed to be significantly more than the previous offer of 4.7%.
The bargaining council facilitated negotiations between Nehawu, Denosa, Popcru, Sapu and the government yesterday.
On Monday, the Labour Appeals Court interdicted Nehawu, its members and those employed in essential public services from taking part in a work stoppage, that had been underway for a week.

Major disruptions at public hospitals and healthcare facilities were reported due to the strike.
Nehawu's Lwazi Nkolonzi saluted the party's frontline members and public servants.
"An agreement was concluded on the augmentation of 2022/23 increments in the settlement agreement. The employer has agreed that residual and substantive matters emanating from the 2022/23 wage dispute related to collar shall be tabled and positively dealt with and concluded as part of the 2023/24 wage negotiations."
The Department of Public Service has meanwhile thanked workers for returning to work this week.
