Public must respect outcome of the municipal elections: ANC
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
The provincial ANC says the outcome of the local government elections needs to be respected.
It's in response to demonstrations by residents of Inanda - north of Durban yesterday - against Ward 3 councillor Bonke Chili.
They're suggesting there was electoral fraud as they claim most of them voted for an independent councillor.
Speaking after a media briefing earlier today, the ANC's Mdumseni Ntuli urged members to accept defeat and move on as the municipal polls were declared free and fair.
"In an event where a certain community or people are not happy somewhere - we will, as usual, be willing to engage with them, to understand the source of their unhappiness, so that together we can find a solution to ensure stability across the province," he said.
Last week, the municipal offices of uMshwathi in New Hanover were torched allegedly by community members who are unhappy with a councillor.
