PSA urges probe into Vryheid doctor’s death
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
The Public Servants Association is calling for a broader investigation into the treatment of a KZN doctor, alleging he had been a victim of bullying.

Francis Idika, who worked at Vryheid Hospital, died a week ago.
The association's Mlungisi Ndlovu believes there may have been foul play, saying the doctor faced intimidation and wrongful disciplinary charges before his death.
A post-mortem examination is currently underway.

"Doctor Idika has been abused to frustrate him to resign, but he refused to resign because he was committed [to serving] the community around Vryheid. He has been there for 17 years.
“On Monday, from eight o'clock we will be there at the gate demanding answers. In one of the doctor’s sick notes when he was absent, it was said ‘due to stress’. The MEC must go and visit that institution. There should be an investigation so that they can look at the circumstances.”
