Protest erupts outside Umhlanga construction site
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Protestors have converged outside the multi-billion rand Oceans Umhlanga development site, north of Durban.
It is understood they want a stake of the construction work from the Lagoon Drive project.
While there is a police presence in the area, work at the site has been suspended for the day.
A group of about 100 people have been protesting outside the development site.
It is believed that some are members of the controversial Delangokubona Business Forum, well-known for disrupting construction sites in and around Durban and demanding tenders.

The situation appears calm at the moment.
Earlier, workers at the site starting downing their tools and leaving.
The Umhlanga Rocks Urban Improvement Precinct released a statement earlier saying SAPS, Durban Metro and UIP officials were on the scene.
It urged people to avoid the area if possible.
