President Jacob Zuma is still the president of the ANC and the country: ANC NEC

That is according to ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe - who says the party's National Executive Committee does not support the call for Zuma to step down.
Mantashe has been briefing the media at Luthuli House - following the ANC's three-day meeting.

He says the matter was debated at great length.
"On the call for the president to consider stepping down as the President of the Republic, the NEC took time to elaborate on what we have previously identified as negative narrative directed towards the president. The essence of the engagement in discussion is persuasion in order to arrive at a consensus. NEC of the ANC has never voted on any issue. Members of the ANC of the NEC, persuade one another to a point of consensus - however difficult it can be," he said.
