Premier calls for arrest of Chilean tourist killers
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
The Office of the Premier has called on police to track down those responsible for the death of a Chilean tourist.
Slavko Yaksic's father, Sergio, identified a body at the Ladysmith Mortuary as that of his 29-year-old son. Yakvic -who's believed to have been backpacking around Dundee - was reported missing after he failed to board his flight back to Chile.
Police say they are investigating charges of murder as the body had stab wounds.
They say they are still waiting for DNA test results to confirm conclusively that it is Yaksic.
Spokesperson for the Office of the Premier, Thami Ngidi, says they are saddened that a visitor to our shores has become a victim of violent crime.
"Tourists are important in the efforts to create jobs in South Africa and to be able to grow our economy", he said.
"Police have been asked to find the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to book soon. We would also like the people of KZN and the rest of the world that government will do everything possible to ensure the safety of tourists and also address the issue of crime", Ngidi said.
