Parts of the country experienced heavy rain, heavy snow, storms and tornadoes this week leaving many homes flooded and causing other damage as well.
Home Affairs says it will be sending the lists it has of those affected to regional home affairs branches for processing.
The department's Mayihlome Tshwete says there will also be mobile units set up in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape this weekend to assist with the issuing of the temporary documents.
"The department would also waiver the cost for those documentation to those people affected by these harsh weather conditions.
"This is intended to give some of the victims some level of normality. What we are trying to do as a department is to ensure that they don't worry about issues of documents or even worry about whether or not they will be able to vote come August 3," he said.
