Political parties react to Zuma's Nkandla settlement

Political parties have welcomed the payment of non-security upgrades by President Jacob Zuma at his Nkandla homestead. The Presidency and Treasury confirmed yesterday that Zuma has paid the amount of R7.8-million towards the upgrades.

However, the DA's Zwakele Mncwango believes the President is not yet off the hook.

"It's not all over yet. There are other issues of corruption which always involved the president," he said.

The party has said the President should provide proof to the National Assembly, that he personally financed the payment.

The IFP's Narend Singh says the Treasury's initial order should have been revised.

"I personally requested on behalf of the IFP a full answer from National Treasury on how they came to those calculations. We have said before that we didn't think it was a realistic amount and more should have been paid by him," he said.

In case you missed it - here's the official statement as issued by the Presidency.

President Zuma has complied with the Constitutional Court Order

President Zuma has paid over the amount of R7 814 155.00 to the South African Reserve Bank as ordered by the Constitutional Court of South Africa in respect of his private homestead at Nkandla.

The President raised the amount through a home loan obtained from VBS Mutual Bank  on its standard terms, one of the few financial institutions which offer home loans in respect of land owned by traditional authorities.

Some parties have taken to social media to share their views.
