Police, security personnel and management at UKZN's Westville campus are bracing themselves for incidents that may occur today.
Yesterday, security clashed with students protesting for free and quality education.
Tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets flew as police tried to disperse angry students who had earlier thrown various objects at them after disrupting lectures.
This student who was shot by a rubber bullet has told Newswatch that he plans to soldier on despite his injuries.
"We will continue with the protests. Our stand is that we want free quality education and we won't back off until we do," he said.
While, a first-year student Austin Bailey, says he was attacked by private security guards, whilst inside his residence on campus.
The university's Lesiba Leshoka confirmed lectures at the campus were cancelled, with staff being asked to leave the premises. The institution is yet to announce whether lectures will resume.
