Police question three men in Pinetown mob attack
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
Three people have been taken in for questioning after two men were killed by a mob in the Pinetown CBD.
The group accused the men of kidnapping a missing schoolgirl and assaulted them at a local taxi rank yesterday.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the victims tried to flee the scene but were overpowered by the crowd.
Officers found that it was a case of mistaken identity, saying the two victims had no involvement in the case of the missing girl.
"It is alleged that community members suspected a child went missing. They were suspecting two men sitting in their vehicle. The community members attacked these men at the taxi rank. We have opened two counts of murder. Up until now, there are no arrests made," he says.
Zwane is urging the public not to take the law into their own hands.
