Police probe related shootings after five killed near Nkandla

Police in northern KZN are investigating whether two shooting incidents near Nkandla that claimed five lives are related.

Four members of one family were shot and killed when two gunmen stormed their home late last night.
Two children, aged 13 and 16, escaped unharmed.
In the second incident, the body of a 70-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds in bushes outside his home.
The police's Nqobile Gwala says the attacks occurred at least 10 kilometers apart.
"Last night in Mphalwini, in eKhombe - two unknown gunmen entered the house and opened fire towards the family members seated inside the rondavel. Four aged between 18 and 76 years sustained gunshot wounds to their upper body.
"They died at the scene. One victim believed to be in his thirties sustained a gunshot wound and taken to hospital for medical attention. It will be investigated whether the two incidents are linked or not," Gwala said.

Police say the motives are currently unknown.
