Police monitor Durban protests
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
Police are keeping a close eye on protests at Effingham, Kennedy and Quarry Roads in Durban which erupted this morning.
Locals from the Sim Place informal settlement barricaded the roads with burning tyres and various other objects, affecting morning traffic.
The police's Thulani Zwane says there is no indication yet of what their demands are.
"The situation is tense but controlled. Police are still at the scene trying to monitor the situation. The roads have now been cleared and motorists can use them," he said.
