Officials from KZN's Safety Department are now assisting police in the probe.

The bodies of four-year-old Lwandle, seven-year-old Siphindile, Lwandile, aged 10, and Bandile Mbhele, aged 12, were found in their Kwanzimakwe home near Port Edward on Saturday morning.

They had been stabbed repeatedly and three of the children's bodies had been mutilated.

KZN Safety's Mluleki Mntungwa says their officials arrived in the area yesterday.

"What the police are telling us is that some have had their ears chopped off. That's why we've asked police to investigate to get to the bottom of the matter. What is a major concern is that when these children were attacked - they were alone in the house," he says.
