Police intel boss Khumalo, co-accused granted R10k bail

The Pretoria Magistrate Court has granted Police Crime Intelligence Head Dumisani Khumalo and 5 other co-accused a bail of R10 000.

Khumalo and six co-accused appeared before the magistrate court on Friday, on charges of fraud and corruption for alleged unlawful appointments.
However, accused number two, Philani Lushaba, will remain in custody until the 13 of August due to another pending court case on corruption.
All accused indicated their intent to plead not guilty to the presented charges.
The state did not oppose bail, saying the accused were not a flight risk.

The matter was postponed to the 13th of August for further investigations.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the South African Police service, Athlenda Mathe said the National Commissioner, Fannie Masemola was concerned over the seriousness of the allegations against the senior officers.
Mathe said, at this stage, the senior officers have not been suspended pending the receipt of the report by the Investigating Directorate by the national police commissioner.
