Police confirm protest attempt in Durban in wake of shutdown threats

Metro police in Durban say they are on standby to keep the peace.
This after messages threatening a national shutdown were shared on social media.
The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJOINTS) says its teams have boosted vigilance on Monday.

It's also issued a warning to those inciting violence.
Metro police spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad has confirmed there's a heavy police presence in Durban on Monday.
He says they moved quickly to quell the protest action in Springfield Park earlier and dispersed a crowd that had gathered near an informal settlement on Alpine Road.

"I can confirm that there has been protests action in the Alpine Road area and Quarry Road East this morning.
"The police arrived shortly after and moved the blockages off the roadway and the roadway was cleared within minutes.
"Police have sustained a strong presence and are monitoring the situation outside the informal settlement on Quarry Road East and Alpine Road."
