Police Commissioner not aware of IPID investigation
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The South African Police Service (SAPS) says it is not aware of an investigation into the National Police Commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane.
News24 is reporting that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is has summoned Phalane to make a warning statement today.
Phalane is reportedly being investigated for the construction of a residence that is said to be worth R8 million.
Brigadier Mashadi Selepe says they only learned of the investigation through the media.
"We would like to place it on record that we respect the mandate of IPID on any investigation conducted against any member of SAPS, regardless of who the person is. It is also unfortunate that this is done through the media," says Selepe.
Selepe says, since they do not know about the warning statement or the charges, the Commissioner can't just go and present himself to IPID.
