PMB school governing body co-operating with police

The school governing body at a Pietermaritzburg primary school where there has been alleged sexual abuse of children says it will continue working and cooperating with police.
A 31-year-old guidance counsellor who worked at the school is accused of raping and sexually abusing schoolboys between the ages of four and nine during sessions in his office.
He's since been fired after it emerged he is not registered with the South African Council for Educators.
The man made another appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court yesterday where he was denied bail and the matter postponed to next month for further investigation.
The Chairperson of the SGB, which is also independently investigating the matter, says it since also been found that the man's contract with the school was not valid.
"Whatever the requirements are - of the Department of Education and the police investigating this - we will make whatever information necessary available.
"I cannot comment on whether bail should be granted or not. I do not have the details surrounding this because police are investigating the matter," he said.
