Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, says officials have taken the necessary steps to ensure that Fees Must Fall protests do not disrupt academic programmes if they occur this year.

Nzimande visited the Umgungundlovu TVET College's Pietermaritzburg campus today.
He addressed a number of issues - including student funding.

The minister has reiterated that protest action could threaten the higher education system.
"My biggest worry is that if these protests continue, they are going to destroy our public higher education system. And when that happens, poor students will suffer most. Because the rich parents - which they're already starting to send their children to overseas universities - and others they're sending them to private higher education institutions in SA," he said.
