Plans to augment water supply at faulty Durban plant
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
Umgeni Water says the pump that failed at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works will be transported out of the province for refurbishment.
The shaft pump failed over a week ago, restricting the inflow of raw water into the plant for treatment.
It has affected supply to homes and businesses in Durban's central, southern and northern areas.
Umgeni Water says work to remove and dismantle the pump began on Sunday.
It will then be taken to a contractor's workshop in Johannesburg and later re-installed.
The utility says it's in the meantime come up with a plan to augment water supply to the plant.
