Pistorius transferred to Gqeberha for dialogue with Steenkamps
Updated | By Algoa FM
The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed the transfer of Oscar Pistorius from the Atteridgeville Correctional Facility in Gauteng to St Albans, west of Gqeberha.
Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the transfer is necessitated by the need to commence with the process of a Victim-Offender-Dialogue.
Pistorius, who is currently serving time for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, is eligible for parole after serving half of his 13-year sentence for murder.
Nxumalo says it is important to clarify that the Victim-Offender-Dialogue is not a parole placement process but takes place prior to an offender being considered for parole.
Reeva's parents, June and Barry Steenkamp live in Gqeberha which is why Pistorius was transferred to St Albans.
It is not yet clear when these dialogues will take place.
