Shops were looted and vehicles were set alight last week in a three-day protest.

Residents have been calling for Premier Supra Mahumapelo to resign.

23 people are today appearing in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court - facing charges of malicious damage to property and public violence.

Calm has been restored to the North West town while police still monitor the area.

The ANC's Gerald Modise says the call for the premier's resignation was discussed during the meeting.

However, Modise says the decision to recall Mahumapelo is determined by the ruling party's National Executive Committee.

The Hawks are investigating allegations against Mahumapelo - he is accused of using state funds to purchase cattle worth R1.5-million. These are alleged to have been gifted to former president, Jacob Zuma.
