Phoenix family hopes for justice for slain son

A Phoenix family has been left upset after two men accused of killing their son were released on bail.

Thirty-five-year-old Nico Naidoo was killed in front of his parents last month outside his Rydalvale home.

His neighbours, Leon Vengatasamy and Justin Kattroyen, are accused of stabbing him and pushing him down the stairs - apparently during a quarrel over parking.

Vengatasamy and Kattroyen were granted bail in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court last Friday.

Nico's father, Roger Naidoo, says it was not a fair decision given the circumstances of the case.

"It wasn't a decision - R3,000 for murder? These guys were actually shouting in my yard before they did this (saying) 'We are going to kill you’. (They) had the intention of killing."

Naidoo says he hopes justice will prevail for his son.

" It's a terrible loss to me and the family because Nico was a good boy. He was the sole supporter of his family. Nico is a boy that was one in a million. Everybody that he met, he touched their hearts.

"I just pray for the justice system to carry out a fair and truthful justice for Nico, because these kinds of guys drink and perform. They're doing it every weekend, drinking, performing, swearing, shouting, fighting among them and for their families."
