Petrol price prediction: Good news for motorists
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
With the cost of almost everything going up motorists can at least expect the price of petrol to come down by 70 cents a litre next week.
The Automobile Association says an improved Rand-US dollar exchange rate and a lower oil price have been attributed to the drop in fuel costs.
Unfortunately for diesel users a 15 cents per litre increase is on the cards.
The AA's Layton Beard says however the announcement of a 30 cents per litre fuel levy increase by Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan this week will lessen the impact of future price decreases.
"We believe that it is concerning that motorists are again being call upon to fund shortfalls in government revenue. The National Treasury forecast that the increased levy will add approximately R6.5-billion to the fiscus. This revenue is collected from the most from the economically active and heavily taxed sector of the population," he said.
