Petrol, diesel prices to decrease in June
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Motorists and other consumers of fuel can look forward to some relief this week.
The Department of Energy spokesperson Robert Maake confirmed the June price adjustments on Monday.
He says petrol will decrease by 71 cents.
"Diesel will decrease by 80 and 84 cents a litre, illuminating paraffin will decrease by 43,58 cents a litre. LP gas will increase by 75 cents per kilogram.
The latest prices will kick in on Wednesday.
The Automobile Association's Layton Beard says the price decreases are welcome.
He says the cheaper fuel comes despite higher international oil prices and a weaker rand against the dollar.
"Increased interest rates are adding enormous pressure on already embattled consumers in a weak economy. Many people are struggling to make ends meet and any relief even if it is slight will assist consumers.
“Decreases to the price of diesel are especially welcomed given that this fuel accounts for significant input costs across all sectors which are often passed on to consumers. A decrease to this price of fuel is therefore welcomed and timely."
