Peace Agreement signed at Glebelands Hostel
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Scores of people wanting an end to the violence at the troubled Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban, have signed a Peace Agreement at the facility.
Around 62 people have been murdered in the area over the past two years.
Members from various task teams and police joined forces last month in an effort to prevent crime, search for wanted suspects and crack down on illegal shebeens.
The KZN Office of the Premier's Ndabezinhle Sibiya says the killings have greatly affected women and children.
"The signing of the Peace Agreement was very historic. The premier also emphasised the need to ensure that all parties involved in conflict are assisted so that they will forget about the past and move forward," he said.
