Parliament calls on society to protect women and children
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Parliament's renewed it's call for an end to violence against women and children.
16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children got underway across the country on Saturday.
The campaign, which runs until 10 December, is geared towards raising awareness about violence against women and children as a human rights issue.
Parliament's spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says such incidents violate the Constitution.
"We are reminding South Africans, especially men, that they are the protectors of our women and our children and they need to stand up to renew their efforts to say that not in their name. They should be counted in and all of us should be counted in, in the fight against abuse of women and children," he says.
