The party's president Velenkosini Hlabisa reacted to the speech delivered by Premier Sihle Zikalala in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday.

"In terms of the promises made in 2020 and 2021 on job opportunities, how many have been archived? If there were challenges, what is the turnaround plan to deal with those challenges other than telling us of new promises and commitments."

The DA's Francois Rodgers said there were very few deliverables.

"What the premiere told us was how he is going to create jobs and how his government is going to create jobs, so I am certainly not inspired by that and I think the other failure from the premier was talking about failures of local government.

"We have a local government that is an absolute failure. Umsunduzi, the city we are in right now, has continuous problems.”

The EFF's Vusi Khoza says effective crime-fighting measures were absent.

"The premier was unable to give specific action points with time frames in terms of ensuring that KZN is no longer what is now termed the murder capital of South Africa since it has surpassed the Western Cape. There was no tangible plan that's actionable."

But KZN Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu believes it was a true reflection of KZN.

"As far as education is concerned, we take pride in the fact that we were also congratulated for increasing the quality of passes in the number of learners who wrote and passed matric."
