One killed, four suspected hijackers arrested in Inanda

KZN authorities have taken down a suspected hijacker, days after arresting four other members of the gang operating in the KwaMashu, Phoenix and Ntuzuma areas - north of Durban.
SAPS Provincial Task Team received information about the suspect and went to the Ntuzuma area where his car was spotted on Thursday.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled the scene on foot towards nearby houses and began shooting at police.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says officers gave chase and - during an exchange of gunfire - the suspect was fatally wounded.
"The police found two unlicensed firearms in his possession. These recovered firearms will be sent for ballistics testing to check whether they were used for any other crimes in the province. The suspect was identified as the same suspect who was wanted for a hijacking that took place last year in December in the KwaMashu area," Zwane said.
Zwane says the team arrested four suspects who were also part of the same gang.
"Four of his friends at the Inanda area were also arrested for a number of hijackings reported in Phoenix, KwaMashu and Ntuzuma. They have already appeared in court," he said.
