Nzimande ordered to retract Unisa administration move
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The High Court in Pretoria has ordered the Minister of Higher Education to immediately reverse his decision to place the University of South Africa under administration.

In a ruling handed down on Wednesday, Judge Andre Le Grange said Minister Blade Nzimande's decision is in breach of a court order granted in August.
The court had ordered the minister not to act on the recommendations of an independent assessor until the challenging applications were completed.

The assessor found there was corruption and maladministration at the institution.
Nzimande was also ordered to withdraw his notice of intention to place Unisa under administration by another judge early last month.
The university filed an urgent application after Nzimande announced Professor Ihron Rensburg as administrator last week to manage the university for the next two years.
Judge Le Grange has given Unisa permission to approach the court for a time and date to consider the issue of contempt of the minister.
Unisa has welcomed Wednesday’s court ruling.
In a statement, the institution says it agrees with the decision as the matter to review the Independent Assessor's Report is still before the court.
