NUMSA calls for 30% wage increase for passenger transport sector workers
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) says it's prepared to embark on a programme of mass action - to fight for fair wages in the passenger transport sector.
The metalworkers union is leading negotiations in the bus sector - calling for a 30% wage increase across the board, among other demands.

Acting NUMSA Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi says workers have been getting a raw deal.
"Employers in this sector have been doing as they please, and workers have been suffering under the terms of a wage deal which has entrenched their exploitation in this sector. Under this deal, workers are eroded, and their working conditions have worsened," she said.
Hlubi says that these issues have therefore put NUMSA in a position to negotiate a better deal for workers.
