About 300 of them took to the streets earlier over water and sanitation.

They also demanded a tanker carrying water be turned back saying twice yesterday it had delivered water which they found to be contaminated.

This local told Newswatch they feel belittled as a community.

"Well, I can say we are not important to government because there are number of things wrong within our community. At times you come home from work at 6 in the evening and there is no power. Food gets thrown away. As for water, its a precious resource, and amuch needed one," the resident said.

Residents barricaded the main road leading in and out of the township earlier, in the Bester area.

Newswatch has learned that one person has been arrested for public violence. Police though have managed to quell the demonstrations.

There have been early morning demonstrations in other parts of the province.

On the N2 Southbound carriageway - near Umgababa - community members also concerned with service delivery in the area barricaded roads with burning tyres and pelted vehicles with stones.

While protest action in Durban's Cato Manor area turned violent - which lead to Metro Police to using rubber bullets to disperse crowds.

Police are keeping close watch of the affected routes.
