Ntuli confirms storm deaths in eThekwini
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says two
people were killed during last week's thunderstorms and strong winds that
battered some parts of the province.

"More than 400 households were affected in the province, with more than 50 shelterless as we speak," said Ntuli.
"Here in Impendle alone, 140 families were affected. Thirty-one of them, they don't have a shelter and are actually staying with their neighbours.
"The unfortunate part is the news that we have just received today in the morning, that in eThekwini, two lives were lost during this current disaster."

On Tuesday, Ntuli and Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa visited wards 1 and 5 of Impendle, in the Midlands, where some households were completely destroyed.
Hlabisa said the classification of a national disaster last week is enough for now.
He said teams are still busy collecting data on the damage caused in KZN, the Free State, Western Cape and the Eastern Cape, where 90 people have died.
"The classification of a national disaster is as good as the declaration of a national disaster.
"The only difference is that classification is quick to allow intervention. Declaration has a long process to follow," said Hlabisa.
