NSFAS pays out, urges students to prioritise res debt
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is appealing to students to settle any outstanding payments with their landlords to avoid eviction or future allowance deductions.

The appeal comes amid confusion regarding a larger student allowance payment of R13 800 made a week ago.
R10 800 of the amount is specifically meant for housing.
The financial aid scheme says full payments have already been sent to institutions.
NSFAS spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi has urged students to show proof of payment to Financial Aid Officers, stressing the need for compliance.

"In light of this situation, NSFAS, with effective 10 April 2025, requested institutions to promptly inform students residing in NSFAS-accredited accommodation who have received these funds intended for accommodation to settle their outstanding payments with their landlords.
"NSFAS calls upon student representative councils and all student organisations to ensure that the affected students adhere to this request to avoid unnecessary inconveniences."
