NPA probes bungled case linked to Zarah Ramsamy's death
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The head of the prosecuting authority in KZN is looking into the circumstances that led to case against the police officer in the Zarah Ramsamy matter being struck off the roll.

The 11-year-old girl was killed by hijackers outside a fast food restaurant in Malvern last September.
Constable Minenhle Makhaye was found in possession of a bank card belonging to the child's mother.
Makhaye had been given the responsibility of moving the family's recovered vehicle to a SAPS facility.
He was accused of taking Mrs Ramsamy's bank card after finding it in the car and using it to buy hundreds of rands worth of alcohol.
He claimed in court that he mistook the card for his.
Makhaye has been in custody since his arrest in October.

Last month, he told the Durban Magistrate’s Court that he intended to plead guilty to the charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice.
But, this week, instead of Makhaye pleading, the matter was struck off the roll.
It came amid reports that the state prosecutor was on leave, and the docket was locked in her office.
The stand-in prosecutor asked for a day postponement, but the magistrate reportedly refused, saying there had been no movement in the case.
In a statement to Newswatch, the NPA in KZN says Director for Public Prosecutions in KZN, Elaine Harrison, will look into the circumstances surrounding the matter.
