DA KZN leader Zwakele Mncwango wrote a letter to City Manager, Sibusiso Sithole alleging that an unelected ANC ward 107 candidate is receiving protection from metro police at the expense of the city.

Mncwango also claims the candidate has been allowed to use two municipal vehicles to campaign for votes ahead of the August elections.

In an e-mailed response to Newswatch, eThekwini spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa has rubbished the allegations - saying that they are unfounded.

She says the City has not assigned with VIP protection or a bodyguard to any councillor candidate and municipal vehicles are not being used for campaigning.

Mthethwa however says Mncwango's letter will be subjected to the relevant Council processes since it was addressed to the City Manager.
