No new mayor for eThekwini at first full council sitting
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini councillors are back in council on Tuesday for the first full sitting since the May 29 general elections.

However, the expected election of a new mayor will not be on the agenda.
The city was left mayorless after the ANC decided to recall Mxolisi Kaunda and redeploy him to the National Council of Provinces.
The expectation among councillors was that the election of a new mayor would be going ahead, but Newswatch was told there is still some work to be done before eThekwini's new first citizen could be handed the mayoral chain.

The city has gone a few weeks without a mayor, a situation that's been described as disappointing by opposition parties.
DA KZN caucus leader Thabani Mthethwa said such a critical position can't be left vacant for too long, as it might lead to instability.
"Firstly, someone to be elected as a mayor must be an EXCO member, then there must be nominations from the floor. If there is more than one candidate then it must be but to vote. We are a bit disappointed that this is not going to happen today."
