No death in SA as direct result of jab, Phaahla says
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Health Minister Joe Phaahla says South Africa has not recorded a single death as a direct result of anyone getting a coronavirus jab.
"Up to this date, we have not received a report which can clearly link a death which has been reported with an actual vaccination side-effect."
At a briefing on Friday, Phaahla said the deaths of some citizens had coincided with receiving the vaccine.
"In the Mpumalanga area, when it was found that this couple had been at a funeral and the following day, they went for vaccination. Unfortunately, some of those died.
"So there are those kind of situations. Some are because of other comorbidities, either maybe heart disease and other diseases, but we do investigate."
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has encouraged those who experience adverse side-effects after receiving a Covid-19 jab to report it to them.
