No change to eThekwini municipality banking details

The eThekwini municipality is urging members of the public to be aware of a fraudulent two page letter being circulated, which notifies customers of changes to the municipality's banking details.

Durban CBD

Officials say the document features the incorrect logo and address.

The notice requests that all customers make payments to a new ABSA account effective from 1 April, 2017.

It further states that the previous municipal account is reserved only for Forex and international clients - which is also incorrect.

eThekwini says it moved all its bank accounts from Standard Bank to Nedbank in October 2015.

They've been no changes since then.

The city says the correct banking details are included at the bottom of all municipal bills.

"The Municipality is currently investigating the source of this fraudulent letter. We appeal to customers who may have received this letter to take it to their closest Sizakala Customer Care centre or to report it to the Municipality’s City Integrity and Investigations Unit by calling 0800 20 20 20," says Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

The source of the fraudulent letter is being investigated.
