Nkoana-Mashabane to visit Trevor Noah ahead of big show

It's a big, big day for Trevor Noah. His first show as the new host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show will air to millions in the United States tonight.

Our International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will be making her way to the set to wish the "nervous and excited" Noah luck and give him South Africa's collective best wishes.

Nkoana-Mashabane, who is in New York for the UN General Assembly, in a statement says Noah is assuming an important global platform through which he will be flying the South African flag high.

"We want Mr Noah to know that the people of South Africa and indeed the entire African continent are proud of his achievement and that they support him fully as he takes the first steps of what we believe will be a rewarding journey. We are hopeful that many people will look at Mr Noah’s success and take greater interest in the abundance of talent that we have in South Africa in a variety of fields, including entertainment, sports, arts and culture, science and technology, for example,” she said.

Noah, 31, was announced as the man to fill Jon Stewart’s big shoes earlier this year after only three appearances as a contributor. He was chosen over heavyweights including Amy Poehler.

The South African's first guest will be American comedian and actor Kevin Hart.

South Africans will only be able to watch the debut show tomorrow on Comedy Central.
